What is your % ?

"What is your % ?" This is the question we ask our children frequently to measure their academic brilliance. No doubt academic brilliance is an added advantage in the competitive field. Parents always want their children to have high scoring in exams.

When they score 70% we want 80%. When they score 80% we want 90%. When they score 90% our demand is 95%. We will be all the more happy if they can make it more than 100 ! Read "Five point someone" or "Three Idiots". It is not exaggeration to say that this "pushing" pushes the child to the verge of suicide. Statistics stand testimony.

When they score high we again pounce on them complining "no extra curricular activity". Fair enough if they fare well in this the next complaint comes "you are not sociable enough". And the game goes on and on.....

What we spoil in this game is the creativity of the child. We bask under the argument that we were also treated like this. Don't we want to change ? Don't we want our children to be CREATIVE ? When are we going to stop this "I am ok you are not" game ? Are we at fault or our education system ?

Let us think it over

Are You Afraid of the Rains.....???

Are you afraid of the Rains? Rains are always a fascination. It kindles the mild emotions, makes one composed, and allows the imagination to fly. It has been the door to creativity for the poets and romantic people. What a fun to get drenched in the rain ! Children love splashing the rain water among themselves in the play mood. Even though we have been hearing the popular rhyme "Rain Rain go away....", nobody wants the rain to go away or miss it. Clattering sound of the rain drops relaxes our tense mind. Ask a group of people to close their eyes and ask them to tap the right hand fingers into the left palm increasing each finger periodically. You can hear the rain drops increasing slowly, reach the pinnacle and then recedes. Such is the soothing power of rain that even an artificial sound is fascinating. Many romantic Indian film songs are woven around rains. The hero and heroin get drenched in the rain and glide around singing the beautiful song "Rimji...

To be serious or sincere

Are we serious or sincere in life ? Should we be more sincere or serious ? People who are guided by brain are serious and those guided by heart are more sincere. We complain about our children not being serious. Have we ever thought about our children to be more sincere ? You think it over and decide which is better.

I don't have time

"I don't have time" this is the regular complaint we frequently hear from all quarters these days. Every body is rushing right from dawn to dusk daily. Husbands don't have time for wife. Wife is busy in her own way. Parents have no time for children. Aged parents are left  on their own without any interaction. No time for socialising. No time for breakfast, no time for exercise, no quality time with family,  Result: Unfinished tasks, abandoned projects, family breakup, frequent visit to family Doctor, spoiled children, poor professional performance, total failure...... Where has all the time gone ? We have heard of successful people who perform well in their career, visit gym regularly (not the family doctor!), go socialising, enjoy holidays, and find time for recreation and club activities. How do they manage this? Are they having 40 hours in a day? Ah! yes. how I wish I have 40 hours in a day ! Everybody is having only 24...
